Came for dinner - seven in our party at 8:20pm and were RUDELY turned down because the young man running the place was shutting it down!! Wednesday night April 8th 2015 was the evening.

Pizza wasn't as good as the one in Lakeview. Not sure if it has to do with going in right before closing.

The food here is THE BEST. Their deep dish pizza is so yummy. My family with 8 people ordered two deep dish large pizzas and we had some to take home. The restaurant itself is kinda dark, but nothing too bad. The service is pretty slow and a bit unreliable. Our waitress kept bringing us refills, but we didn't want any. Some of the times she even brought us the wrong drinks. The pizza took 40 minutes to get out, but it was worth it because it was so yummy. I really liked how you could draw on the walls and furniture. It made the place unique and rememberable.

A nice Gino's East some 20-30 mi away from the city. They actually have a nice little arcade for the kids, etc. Actually a wonderful array of Gumball-Candy Machines. The Pepperoni deep dish pizza is pretty good as well. I actually like the graffiti art, For one Halloween skit, A witch crashing with her broom onto a quasi-human tree........Poor tree........

Big, Chunky and Sloppy No- I'm not describing myself-- its the pies at Original Gino's East! Granted- Uno's Downtown is my First (forgive the pun) Chicago Style choice--but Gino's also packs in the poundage when it comes to pizza pies cooked in a 2lbs pan for about 45mins in a huge hot oven. Fresh Chunky style tomato sauce covering top-quality cheese and old school recipe Italian meats. Crust is much like a pie crust-hey it has to be pretty Industrial strength to hold up all that taste! Wash everything down with a cold beer and I'd say its a great meal.

If I had known then about their awful service, like I know now...not a dime would I had spent...nor a foot I'd stepped into this shabby, disrespectful and unprofessional establishment! After looking over the rudeness over the phone to place a carryout order, it was worse after picking up our food. We ordered a med, saus, pepp, jalapeno thin with Caesar salad...we get to our hotel and...no napkin, no utensils and no plates. Called back to be informed we should have asked, no one to bring us supplies (we're literally in the hotel across the street), informed to get it from hotel because they're closing and when I was so dissatisfied...I informed her that I was calling corporate..she chuckled stating..."we're not corporate owned." Absolutely incredible...so YELP you're my corporate...enter this awfully managed restaurant at your own risk. No apparent customer service and that was the manager. Waited 35 minutes for a cold pizza and a nasty demeanor. Heed this warning...NO stars!!!

I had an awful experience here with their service. I don't know if it was a one-time thing with a bad waitress or what, but this location did nothing to change my negative experience here. We came with a party of 6. The food came incredibly late when the restaurant wasn't even busy. The waitress was unfriendly, as if we were a bother to her. Didn't check-up with us. A couple nearby who had been seated after us actually flagged down our waitress. They had gotten their food much earlier while we were still waiting, which they pointed out to our waitress rofl. When our salad finally came out, the croutons were burnt. That was the first time I've ever been served burnt food, much less basic croutons on a salad. Even if the food had been amazing (it was most definitely NOT), the gawd-awful service would have turned me off completely from becoming a repeat customer.

The problem with this particular Gino's has to be management. My family and I have tried this location on four separate times in the last two years. We've dined in without precalling our order, dined in with preordering, and take out. On all occasions the pizza was not hot. If I'm waiting an hour for a pizza, I want it steaming hot when it comes to my table. This has happened on all occasions, busy or not. Other locations don't have this problem.

This is the third Gino's I've been to. Took my kids for lunch one day and got a thin crust pizza. The best thing about their pizza still to this day is the sausage. it's so flavorful! I asked for the pizza to be well done, and it was. Very crispy and good. The service here, especially considering there was only one other person in the store -- was horribly slow. Horribly, horribly slow. But the server was pleasant. This is probably my worst review ever but since I've already reviewed their food elsewhere, it's just a matter of location and execution that I can really review.

We decided to try this place out and it wasn't bad. Our server was a fantastic and the food was decent. The crust is flakey and the sauce was delicious. The inside is nifty with tons of graffiti but the seats could use some updating. Don't order the garlic sticks with sauce.. they tasted frozen.

I don't even know where to start. I love Gino's east but this one was disappointing. Mike was our server and seemed like he was busy. He got our order wrong and we obviously told him that's not what we ordered and he said well at least you have food for tomorrow

I have been to this location and the location in Wheaton, which both locations I am not impressed with. Each time I have gone, its hard to get any service. It seems as if the wait staff are MIA half the meal. When I visited the location on Friday, we had a reservation and were sat right away, but our server was rude from the beginning. We ordered appetizers that came right away and were nice and hot. We then ordered the deep dish pizza, which we are all well aware takes time to make. By the time we got our pizza, it was about an hour and a half later. What made things worse, was that our pizza was cold. Early on the in the night, we asked our server if we could split the check. She simply said she already had the bill started and she could not do this. All that was on our check at this point were our drinks which was pop.I myself have been a server in the past, and know this is not true. Sure, as servers we do not like splitting the bill because we tend to lose out on money that way. But, at the end of the day, you want to satisfy your customers so they come back.To top things off, we all had to sit with our coats on in the restaurant. Granted it was cold out that day, but it felt like the air conditioning was on. I myself know that I will not be going back to Gino's East as every time I've gone, I always walk out disappointed. This last time was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I've been hearing lots of good things about Gino's East for a very long time, little did I know there were more than one of them. When I found out we were going to the one in St Charles and not the one in downtown Chicago I was a little worried that I would be missing out on something. Even though I still need to go to the original one, after getting a deep dish pie in STC I'm pretty sure I had nothing to worry about, it was great! I insisted on getting the patty of sausage so my friend suggested we try a supreme and add pepperoni to it, good call there! The crust was buttery, a thick layer of cheese on the bottom, then the disk o' sausage with the other toppings, all topped with a pool of great tasting chunky pizza sauce. Heavenly! We did carryout and it was really cool that they didn't cut the pie, as it would have likely gotten soggy pretty fast. I guess I can see how you'd be SOL if you were taking it somewhere and didn't have access to a knife - don't even think about slicing it with a basic pizza cutter. We also got an order of toasted ravioli, maybe not the greatest I've ever had but still pretty damn good for a pizza joint. If you have a hankering for Chicago style deep dish and are in the area Gino's East is definitely worth trying. Right about now I'm thinking I should've gotten one packed for travel and brought it back to Denver!

The crust is never soggy like other Chicago-style places and the ambiance is KILLER! You used to be able to write on the walls at Gino's, but not anymore. In fact, the last time I showed up it was with my 11-year-old brother. He informed me that the last time he went to Gino's, there was a bad word on the wall. Lesson learned: if you have literate children that aren't mature enough for bad words just yet, don't sit in the upstairs area. The food takes a while to cook, but I credit that to the fact that Gino's pizza is made-to-order. This ain't no Pizza Hut. My one complaint: the carryout SUCKS! The first time I ordered carry out, I went to pick it up and was informed after some hushed whispers between staff members that my pizza had been given to a table of dine-in guests. Oops. The next time, I called ahead and said I needed my pizza by 7:00 (that was after I called at 6:00, mind you). I showed up at 6:10 and waited a half hour for my pizza. They just have really bad time management, I guess. The food outweighs the bad, but I still get real annoyed sometimes. Especially when the half hour wait was with my starving sibling who started to get crabby near the end.

I took my wife here for mothers day as she loves their deep dish. I noticed everyone around us complaining when we were seated but thought nothing of it. We waited 2 hours from time sat down untill we left. All we ever got was appetizer and drinks. They still did not have the pizza or pasta or even a simple beef sandwich made! The two tables around us (who ordered 30 minutes AFTER us) revived their pizzas. One was cold. One was right and one hit the floor before the server got to their table! It was THE worst experience I have EVER had dining out. Untill they get It to gather I would stay away. I know we will never be back!

Place is a little strange. Ginos east management better get this location straightened out or they are gonna ruin the brand. Seems disorganized and not so clean. Not allot of people seem to be working there either. Food was a mixed bag, calamari appetizer was kind of terrible, grease in fryer hasn't been changed in a while. Deep dish pizza was quite good though. Maybe a good place to go and just get a pizza if you have the time. Remember to bring markers - BTW need a paint job, because no room to write anywhere anymore, I would stay away from all the other food though.

You can see their warning that the pizza will take time and it does take a lot of time so maybe it is a good idea to order for something to munch on till the pizza arrives. And the wait is worth the while! This was my first deep dish Chicago pizza and the memory shall live forever! Great crust, awesome ambience and very courteous service. They have hit top notch. Since I am away from Chicago, I will probably not be getting there often enough! But on any trip I'd definitely be there to satisfy my pizza craving! It makes pizza chains look like poorly paid clowns!

Eh. That's all I can think when I think about Gino's East. We went here at my son's request for his "last night of summer freedom" before 8th grade. I wish he would have requested almost anything other than Gino's. First off, you can write on the walls again. But, since it was a last minute request, we were unprepared - don't forget your Sharpie markers! Our waitress seemed okay at first and then proceeded to misunderstand our order. We ended up with Buffalo Chicken Wings and Garlic Breadsticks. We didn't want the Buffalo Wings, but since it was my son's night and he likes them, we ending up keeping them. At almost $8 for 10-12 small wings, this was not a good decision. The breadsticks were pretty good and then we found that two on the bottom of the plate were overcooked. How you can overcook only a portion of the order of breadsticks is beyond me! My pop tasted funny. We ordered two Mr. Pibbs and an orange pop. I took a sip of the Mr. Pibb and thought she gave my root beer in error. I pointed this out and she got me a fresh glass. Bottom line, something was wrong with the machine because the pop tasted like root beer. This is not the only place where I have had this happen to me. It's kinda weird, but I've noticed this at two places now and I am starting to think I should switch back to iced tea. :-) The pizza. The whole reason for the visit. We ordered a medium, deep dish with the sausage patty. Now, they beat out Lou Malnati's because the pizza isn't dripping with grease. But, the crust is dry and crumbly. Not at all buttery. It was kind of a disappointment. We each had one piece and have half of the pizza left, but when I mentioned that someone eat the leftovers tomorrow - I had no takers. Finally, we got the bill from our waitress and almost ten minutes later I brought it to the host stand to see if he could run the credit card for me. He took it, walked into the kitchen yelling for Cindy (our waitress) and came out a couple minutes later telling me from across the room that she was running it for me. When she came out, she apologized for the wait by telling me that she had a party on the other side which kept her busy. I don't know that she really needed to tell me that she was tending to a party on the other side of the restaurant. Honestly, what do I care? I was waiting way too long, in an empty restaurant, at almost 9pm on a Tuesday night to care why you were taking so long. Not sure what she expected me to say, but "No problem, here's a big, fat tip for you." I think not. So, I'm glad that my son was happy and enjoyed his wings and pizza. I can't imagine that we will be back anytime soon.

Gino's East is tied with Nancy's for THE BEST deep dish pizza in my opinion. They're different but both so good in their own way, which is why they can both be the best. My favorite thing about Gino's East is their weekday lunch special. You can get a personal-size pizza with soup or salad for just $6! They have some other lunch specials too - all a pretty good deal. The service is always fast and accurate. I just love their deep dish cheese pizza!

I walked into this restaurant with my family on a slow Sunday evening. We were seated and placed our order all within 5 minutes of walking in. That was a great start because all of us were starving. The decor was was pretty neat, my family and I were amused at the writing all over the walls, tables, and chairs. I had a Groupon deal for a medium 2 topping stuffed pizza and appetizer. For the appitizer I ordered the fried ravioli and for the pizza toppings I ordered spinach and jalapenos. I've had fried ravioli only once before and that was at Olive Garden so I'm not an expert or anything in that department, but what we were served was a little too oily. I had one bite and I was done, it was a little torturous to finish the rest of my one piece. That being said, my mom enjoyed it so much that she had 3 out of the 5 that came. The pizza took forever to come out, at least it felt that way especially because we were hungry and knew it was going to take around half hour to 45 minutes for it to come out of the oven. The pizza itself was delicious though, worth the wait. My family and I are big fans of stuffed pizza, who isn't in Chicago really?! The service up to that point was average, nothing too special. But what really encouraged me to give this place an extra star, I was going to rate it a 3 originally, was the service I received after requesting my check. I pulled up the Groupon on my phone for the waitress to write down and take it to the computer to process and the Groupon app shut down. I opened it again and the Groupon was marked redeemed. I thought no worries, I could call a cousin who can hop onto a computer and see if he can access it to get the number so I can redeem it. There was no way for me to access the numbers on that Groupon. It was very frustrating and I explained the situation to the waitress. She went to speak with her manager who told her that I can pay with a credit card and once I call Groupon's customer care representative, I can call the restaurant back and she can place a refund onto my account. I called her 2 days after and she did just that! I was so pleased. I would have thought that the manager would've given up hope and told me to come back again to use the Groupon but she was kind enough to go the extra mile. I was very pleased and will come back when I'm in the mood for Gino's.

Who doesn't love Gino's East? My last experience here was with the in-laws, including siblings and 2 toddlers. And our waitress was fantastic with understanding the craziness. The pizza was soooo good - as always! I'm not a fan of their sausage, but that's just me. The rest of the family loves it. Things to know if you've never been here: * You can write on the walls. * There will be a wait for your food, because it's all fresh. * There is a little arcade by the front entrance. * If you've never had Chicago deep dish, 2 slices are usually enough for 1 person. * You will need a fork and knife to eat your pizza.

  • Elizabeth W.

I have been to this restaurant twice in six months because my in-laws like it, and each time I thought the food was terrible. I will admit right now that I do not like deep dish pizza, but there is other food at this restaurant right? WRONG! The first time I went, I tried minestrone soup and cheese ravioli. The soup was nothing but tomato soup with a few veggies thrown in, and the ravioli was repulsive. The sauce was a pile of grease and the ravioli tasted like the store-bought crap you get in the freezer bags. The second time I went, I decided to stick with pizza, but since I don't like deep dish, I went thin crust instead. It was edible, a lot better than the ravioli I tried, but still way too greasy, even for pizza. I would give this place one star, not only for the food, but for the service and atmosphere as well. Each time we went to this restaurant we had a large party of 10 or more. They sat us upstairs where there was only one waitress for the entire floor. Needless to say, it took way too long to take our orders, bring our drinks, get any refills, and to get the check when we were finally done. As for the atmosphere, I understand the rustic, old Chicago theme they have going on inside, but everything inside looks old and dirty. I don't know the last time they replaced the chairs in there, but they were uncomfortable as hell and very unsteady...a lawsuit waiting to happen. There is usually something about a restaurant that I like, but everything about this place underwhelmed me. I hope my in-laws do not want to go there anytime soon!

We heard that Gino's was acclaimed for its Chicago-style pizza, so we brought our out-of-town relatives to dinner there. The kids enjoyed writing on the walls, but that was about the end of the fun. We sat upstairs; I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but our service was poor. Our server was friendly with us, but didn't check on us very often. The Mozzarella sticks were good, but the deep fried raviolis were dry. We ordered two deep dish pizzas (ordered when we got on the seating list). I don't care for the corn-based crust at all and I found the pizza lacking in flavor. My biggest test of a pizza place is the "cold leftover pizza test". How does it taste the next day right out of the fridge. The pizza didn't pass muster, and with a good deal of leftovers that meant I was looking for the rest of the family to take care of the rest.

  • Matt B.

Overall the service and pizza was good. The two issues were our seating was terrible. We were stuck in a corner with no room to get out of the seats. The other issue was the calamari was the worst I have ever eaten. There was little to no taste and they looked very unappealing

Bring friends! You'll need them not only to pass the time while waiting for your pizza to be prepared, but you'll need a hungry bunch to take on the resulting meal. We started off our meal by splitting a order of meal and a giant salad. The wings were decent, but not fantastic. The salad was packed with veggies and croutons. The dressing was tangy. When the pizza finally arrived it was hot, cheesy, saucy, and packed with flavor. The pizza was absolutely worth the wait. I'm not from the Chicago area, so I can't stack this against competing restaurants, but I thought it was a great pizza. Only downside was the service. The waitress could have checked in on us more. Maybe because we were in the upstairs corner it was tougher to keep track of us? Overall, Gino's the pizza experience was a complete success. If you're traveling through this area, swing on by and grab a great pizza.

Wow! I'm unfortunately a bit stymied on what to write here. Gino's East used to be my bedrock for good Chicago Pizza. Either it's just been too long since I've been in one or they've changed quite a bit. The draw for me is always the gigantic sausage PATTY that you can have cover your entire deep dish pizza. Although that is still in existence, the pizza just lacked any quantity of cheese and the dough seemed "crumbly" as in, it was kinda like a dried out cornbread. I'm saddened by my visit and frankly hadn't thought of here until I got a 20% off coupon. Since there's a Lou Malnati's and Giordano's between home and this location I likely won't be back anytime soon. OH, for those of you graffiti lovers, you CAN write on the walls again, but sadly it's at eye level or above (at least it was in the room we were in). That made it kinda tough for the kids as they had to stand on chairs to write their names and other sayings.

    (2)
  • Joe B.

Decent pizza, but by no means as good as Giordano's. The service for dine-in is TERRIBLE. Expect long waits and infrequent visits to your table. We had to ask another waitress to summons ours when we hadn't seen her for 20 mins and we were still waiting for an entree. If I managed the place there would be a big staff augmentation happening. This is the same poor service in 3 visits in 5 years. You could have the best food in the world, but if the service sucks, so will customer retention.

Stopped by here Sunday for a little nostalgia -- you know, just like the good old days here in Chicago. We'd all hop in the car and head out for pizza to save mom the trouble of cooking... Oh, how things have changed. The joint was dead around 630pm. The walls were devoid of any graffiti, the pizza was lukewarm(!?), and the pepperoni was sliced so thin it had no taste. Mama mia! The pizza was really a sad looking little thing -- it half-filled the pan and the crust had actually fallen over on the sides due to lack of "stuff" in the middle. That's not Chicago-style deep dish... The family salad was good and a deal. And they have what looks like a good deal for families with a large deep-dish, a bowl of mostaccioli, and a pitcher of pop for $16. But the pizza was embarrassing. Sorry Gino!

Highly reccomended for those looking for authentic Chicago Style Pizza. I have always loved Gino's since parents first took me to the downtown location when I was a teenager. Many years later I was giddy to find the St. Charles location. I have gone there for lunch a handful of times in the past 4 years and the food is always great. One time they forgot to put the sausage patty on the pizza but made up for it with discounts. I am however, shocked that the times I have gone there, the place is empty. I haven't been there for dinner so I don't know if it gets any busier at night or on weekends. Overall the food is consistent with the downtown location but the ambience lacks. Still I will always love Gino's East.

Poor and rude service. I'm writing this a year after and still remember how awful my wife and I were treated. For example, we kindly asked an employee at the register mulitple times to change the channel to a program that many other customers were seeking to view however this employee decided it was not very important as he continued to sit around at his desk with no customers in line. The waitress that served us failed to make change for my large bill at payout, assuming I would tip her the remaining currency. Finally, we were very disgruntled at the fact that it took over an hour and an half to serve us a small portion of deep dish pizza. It was my wife and I's first experience at Gino's East as well as our last if something is not done to respectfully treat customers with the utmost gratitude.

Like 99% of you, I love pizza, and while many places do it right, Gino's doesn't. It was very disappointing, slice after slice. We ordered a sausage patty/cheese deep dish. The sausage patty reminded me of bologna, tasteless and bland. I was really missing some Giordano's at that moment! The thin crust was okay and the Mozzarella sticks were good, I'll give them that. We lucked out with a tentative server who checked up on us plenty of times, which is a rarity according to reviews I've read, but I am not coming back here.

Pre order your deep dish. .. takes 45 min but it is definitely worth the wait. The server's were very polite and if you dont have time to wait for a real chicago pizza and you don;t pre order, then stick to Pizza Hut & Little Caesars because this Pizza is worth the wait. My boys had a great time walking around the place and reading the signatures and writing's on the wall they even added their own. No one in the place gave the kids dirty looks for having a good time it's definitely a place where you can sit back and relax we tipped our waitress generously because she was awesome and actually was very personable. The only thing I was not a big fan of was the bathroom but after 2 hours on a soccer field with the boys the bathrooms were better than the port o potty's on the St Charles fields. Love the food and ambience !

Never going here again! Calamari was expensive for the amount, garlic stick also expensive (it's an Olive Garden bread). Lemonade water down and pizza was bad nothing special about this place. Ugh ... what a waste of money. Gino's East at St. Charles

  • Amy K.

I've definitely had better experiences at other Gino's locations (ie. Libertyville). This location seemed ...dirty? I'm not sure that's the right word, but the graffiti on the walls seemed tacky, and there were visible cobb webs on the decor. We ordered the garlic bread, which was good, but the fried apps tasted like they were frozen. The calamari was definitely a let down. Our pizza was good for Chicago deep dish, but not amazing. This may also be because we didn't order the sausage patty when that's really the best one. The wine was not good, by any standard, but I guess I can't expect much at a pizza chain.

I have given up trying to decide on my favorite deep dish pizza in Chicago. It's exhausting. And quite frankly, I don't care. I am and always will be a thin crust man. So given the fact that I seldom bask in the deep dish madness this city possesses, it would be inane to partake in such a debate. But despite my deep dish apathy, when I do indulge, it definitely hits the spot. Tonight was no exception, as I was roaming around in St. Chuck and promptly decided this would be deep dish night. Oh yes. Like really memorable sex, something that happens a few times a year. I came here at a great time. Late afternoon, early evening hours. I beat any potential annoying dinner crowd. I only planned to order a small, but the courteous staff informed me it would only be a few dollars more to order a large with a pitcher of pop. Their restaurant makes a few more dollars, and I'll have breakfast pizza tomorrow. Well, she didn't say that last part. But I'm pretty sure that was both our logic. I really don't feel like getting into semantics of how Gino's East is different from it's competitors. I'll simply state that I've better, and worse. The crust lacks in flavor compared to some I've had, but is still very good. I believe it compliments the sauce very well, which is always the focal point of this style of pizza. In fact, next time I will request extra sauce. The cheese is plentiful, as it is on most deep dish pies. I also enjoy the fact that they give you the option of crumbled or patty sausage. I suck at ending reviews with something eloquent, so I'll just say this: I'm full.

Very poor service, been there twice and it was the same each time. Got there, no ne to great you, picked our own table after standing around for 10 minutes, took another 20 minutes to get our drinks... and hour to get our pizza..and at first the waitress brought us the pizza that the other table had ordered... then finally our pizza came, she put the pizza on the other table, claiming it was hot, and never got back to put it on our table we had to get up to go get it ourselves ..i mean really?????? Then at last I had ordered a thin crust.. it was just absolutely the worst pizza i had ever eaten in my life...the crust was less then desirable. Never again will i go eat there! There is way too may other places to eat a decent pizza in illinois.. this is one f the worst.

Still love the pizzas! What makes their pizza unique is the crispy crust of their deep dish pizzas. They use semolina flour which resembles somewhat like cornmeal. I personally think it adds a new dimension to the flavor of the crust. Also, the last time we were here I was disappointed with the calamari so this time we ordered the artichoke dip and it was delicious! Atmosphere is very laid back (you can even write on the walls) and the staff is friendly. Service can be a bit slow at times. Overall, it is always fun to come here with the family.

Gino's East - a Chicago classic. I have to admit, when I'm in the area I prefer the mom & pop shops (thin crust) out west, but in the burbs & the city, it's Gino's, Lou's, and Giordano's all the way. Gino's never disappoints. It had been a few years since I've been here. The Rolling Meadows location closed a few years ago, making Gino's no longer convenient for this tourist. So this pizza snob is in heaven when I'm here visiting. I grew up on good pizza, and that's an understatement. So what do I want when I'm in the Chicago area? PIZZA!! I moved to Austin and the pizza there sucks for the most part...until we FINALLY got a good pizza place in June 2015 - Gino's East, of course! So...I know Gino's East is good. I've had it a number of times. However, I wanted to compare the new Austin location to the real thing up here, hoping that my memory is serving me right. Lucky me - it's perfection! I ordered my old standby, deep dish cheese. The crust was perfect, just the right amount of cheese, and that sweet chunky sauce. Yummy! So, of course I expected the best here and I was not disappointed. Better yet, it's exactly the same in Austin, so after waiting years and years and years and years, not only do we get a good pizza place in Austin, but it's also every bit as good as the real thing here. Comparing apples to apples, it's perfect.

Customer service here is non existent. I called in an order, had all of my information taken and sent my wife and three year old on their way to pick up dinner while I put the baby to sleep. Upon arrival, my wife was told that they had no pizza under our name and advised her that I probably called the wrong number. When she got to the car and called me I called the number again to verify that I knew how to properly use the internet. When "Gino's East, St Charles" was the greeting, my online skills were vindicated. My wife went back in...apparently the manager on duty felt that this was a good time to be argumentative instead of apologetic and accommodating. No discount or any kind of consideration, just "we can put one in for you now or sell you a frozen pizza to take home." When I got the call with this info I was far from impressed. I called in to talk to the manager myself. Having been a customer service manager for ten years I thought I may be able to either get an apology or maybe even a discount if we wanted to order something on the future. I very quickly felt my wife's frustration when I got the two minute lecture of how sometimes people accidentally call the Wheaton Gino's and had we just ordered when we first showed up we'd almost have a pizza ready by now. I told her that I now understand my wife's frustration and agree with her that we will never order from there again. Her response was "fine, bye." Classy move from a super well trained manager. No wonder the rest of the staff can't even take an order over the phone. You know what really irks me about this the most? I really like that pizza. Too bad the service tastes like hot garbage.

I'll make two recommendations. Spinach, chicken, and mushrooms. And bacon cheeseburger pizza with mushrooms. Both are amazing. Outside of pizza, the garlic sticks and spinach dip are great appetizers. And to the Einsteins whining about the thin crust pizza not being good, there is no such thing as a good pizza when it's cut into those little tiny dinky squares. And the fact that anyone would say Fox's or Rosati's is better, I would say go easy on the drugs... Yes, the place is dark, but hey, it's old school. Suck it up. It's about the only Gino's left where you can still write on the walls, and yes you are allowed to write still. And our waiter who wore the Mets vest was really nice and personable.

DON'T BE FOOLED!!! This isn't same Ginos East that's in the city. I should have known better when the parking lot was empty on a weekend. Horrible atmosphere and it just felt dirty. Pizza wasn't great, I've had worse; and I extremely regret the garlic bread that was a "local fav". Save the trip and order from any of the other local pizza places.

Went here a few times after Fox Valley baseball games as a youth! It was when they still allowed writing on the wall. Well, the writing was on the wall. Average service, mediocre pizza, and okay atmosphere. If you're a coupon guy, go here. Better options nearby though!

After a long commute home in another torrential downpour did I really want to be disappointed by an easy order in? No, but thanks to Gino's East, I was. A medium thin crust pizza seemed to lack any type of moisture in it, was the size of an individual pizza, and priced as a large. The antipasto salad included the usual suspects but came with no dressing. On both counts, my relatives would have been seen running down the road, screaming. Did I wish I had grabbed the tip from the delivery guy who not only had no smiling muscles in his face, but apparently had never learned the please-thank you rules of customer service. The savior of this review is the nice girl on the phone who took my order, but even she is not enough for my continued business. Ciao.

My girlfriend and I are self-proclaimed pizza enthusiasts and connoisseurs. I've always heard of Gino's and how synonymous it is with Chicago. We were very let down. This was our first Gino's experience, and our last. We got the deep dish pepperoni and it had practically no sauce, was very dry, and the crust was not good at all. We wish we would have just gone to Pizza Hut or Giordano's. :(

What a great Pizzeria I'll tell ya. It's got a real Chicago feel to it, and an even better authentic Chicago Taste. If Al Capone were still running the streets and making his way out to St. Charles every now and then, I'd bet my butt he'd stop by this Gino's East location for a bite to eat.

Holy awful service Ginos! Was home this past week and had to stop in for my Chicago-style pizza fix and was totally underwhelmed. It took a good 10 minutes to be greeted and seated even though the place was nearly empty, and while our server was quick with the drinks, nothing else about this experience was even remotely speedy. The lunch specials are a great value, but the service was beyond slow. A good 10 or 15 minutes before our order was even taken, then the normal wait for the Chi-town-style goodness. Salads were just "m'eh" and the toasted raviolis we ordered never came. On top of all that, the sausage tasted...weird. Not bad weird, but it was more just like ground beef than sausage. Also, the ladies room = gross. I haven't been home in nearly two years and I'm so bummed that Gino's has gone downhill. Once it was super awesome with a fun vibe. Now it's like creepy-strip-mall-pizza-place that no one goes to.

We had a very pleasant experience at this Gino's East. Our server was friendly enough, and checked in fairly regularly. Eventually our waitress just brought us a pitcher of diet coke so she wouldn't have to do so many refills. We were eating with a groupon, which sometimes results in inferior service, but it did not here. Our groupon included an appetizer and a medium deep dish pizza. We went with the garlic sticks, which were delicious, and also ordered the spinach cheese dip because we were very hungry. It was also very good. The deep dish pizza took about 45 minutes to cook, but the waitress let us know in advance so it wasn't a problem. Overall, I won't be rushing back, but would not be unhappy to go back if invited.

What is it with places in St Charles that got stuck in the 80's? Gino's East is definitely stuck in time. It is in serious need of updating. The pictures and decor are all old and dated. If it wasn't for the pizza, there would be no redeeming features of this Gino's location. Our waitress seemed like she would have rather been somewhere else. The place, not only outdated, seemed a little dirty, and geez get some new tv's! I do, however, love the deep dish with pepperoni and sausage! So it's a love/hate relationship for me... I give this place a 4 star for the pizza but a 1 star for atmosphere and wait staff.

Visited Friday night 1/09/2015. Restaurant was about 3/4 full with plenty of open tables. No one currently waiting for a table. Stood at the host/hostess stand for 15 minutes, while the waitstaff pretended not to see us. A young teenage girl finally comes over an says, "I'll be with you as soon as I can, I've been running all over" and left. So we left and went to Riverside Pizza instead. This is not my first poor experience at this Gino's East location, but I can guarantee it will be my last.

When they first opened this place was packed, good and fun. You could write on just about anything with a marker but I think OSHA stopped that. I don't mind a deep dish once in awhile but surprisingly I tried a thin crust that I got for free with coupon and it wasn't bad. Good flaky crust. If your stomach hurts from acidic things such as tomatoes, I don't recommend the deep dish with sheet sausage. Yes, an entire layer of sausage laid on the crust and covered with sauce & cheese.

I'm a newcomer to Chicago, having only moved off the west coast 4 months ago. One of the first things I wanted to do was try Chicago style deep dish pizza. I've found that Gino's is my favorite. I've only been to a couple other pizza places, including Lou Malnati's, but I like the atmosphere and, of course, the pizza! Their crust is amazing; I never knew before moving that crust mattered. The wait staff is great, too; after helping us once, Jason has remembered us every time we visit - even remembering exactly what pizza we like, how we order it (we have some modifications), and what pops we like to drink. The couple times we've had a problem with our pizza, they go above and beyond to make it right. If you're ever in the mood for fantastic deep dish, head to Gino's.

Our family loves eating at Gino's East, but this location consistently has difficulty with any party over 4 people. After we ran out of drinks, we didn't see our waitress for at least 20 minutes. Finally, when she arrived back with our food, it took her about two or three tries to get the drink refills right. You would think they would have given us an experienced server with a bigger party, but she did not seem capable of handling a larger group. Gino's East is probably better eaten carry out than inside, unless you have time to kill waiting for the deep dishes to bake.

so i heard that going when going to chicago trying a deep dish pizza was a must. not sure if st charles constitutes as chicago but i guess its close enough. the pizza was actually really tasty. the crust was a bit dry, but dippin it in the creamy garlic sauce complimented it gracefully. service was alright. nothing bad or good. a-ok. the server i got looked like harry potter haha. oh yeah try the spinach sticks here. they put the mozzarella to shame!

I haven't had Gino's pizza since I was a kid and just recently had it last week and it was as delicious as I remember. We got the deep dish veggie and I was delighted and impressed by the vegetables they put on the pizza. Most places put some onions, mushrooms and green peppers and thats about it. So the addition of squash, asparagus and eggplant was a great suprise for this vegetarian. The person who answered the phone also agreed to deliver the pizza to some hungry 911 dispatchers who aren't able to leave their place of work to get food, even though we were outside their delivery area. It was much appreciated!

I don't get the hype.. Being new to the area I have heard nothing but having to try the Pizza - So after asking around - Gino's was suggested as the 'Best' place.. We even had a FREE pizza as a welcome - no additional purchase necessary. So it seemed like a win win situation. We decided to try it after my son's soccer practice on a Friday night. Parking was difficult around 6:30 but seating was readily available. We were taken upstairs to a large table in a dingy, barely lit dining room. It was very noisy and again - back to my pet peeve - a dirty sticky table awaited us. I just don't understand why it is such a big deal to clean a table really well before you seat someone.. but I digress.. You can write on the walls here .. my kids at first were like 'Cool' then it was ' what's the big deal' .. so that got old real quick. We sat at the table for 10 minutes before being acknowledged by an obviously overwhelmed server. Finally after getting menus (and a table wipedown) we ordered drinks. Nothing fancy - a beer, a house wine, three sodas.. These took over 10 minutes to get to us - so now we are 20 mintues in and just getting drinks.. he walked off for another 5 minutes before returning to take our order. We ordered one Medium Chicago Style (meats) and one thin crust 1/2 cheese 1/2 veggie. My daughter ordered Chicken fingers and fries. After taking our order he disappeared for over 10-15 minutes and finally checking in to see if we needed drink refils.. which we did - and it took another 10 minutes to get it.. Finally after 5 minutes of getting drink refills the long awaited food arrives.. At first glance - this looked quite good .. The thin crust was for me and and my youngest and the Chicago Style for the boys.. I had to try a bite of the boys pizza and bit into a thick , gooey mess of a meal. The cheese was 'chewy stringy' , the meat greasy and slimey.. the sauce was almost the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted in my life.. I said .. well maybe this just isn't my thing. The crust tasted like cardboard.. I've had better pizza from Pizza Hut!!!! So my husband and son (who literally will eat anything) dug in .. My son said - this is the worst pizza he's ever had but was hungry so he was going to eat it.. My husband took two bites and attempted to eat the thin crust with me. Moving on to the thin crust - This was just as bad, if not 'worse' than the other - mostly becuase you didn't have globs of meat on it to disguise the inedible crust or disgusting sauce.. In the end we didn't eat any of it - I picked at the veggies and cheese and my husband had a sandwich at home .. My youngest ended up eating some of my daughters chicken.. in which I stole a bit of both her fries and chicken.. and in a rare compliment here - the Fries were REALLY good - that could be though that the pizza was really bad.. :) We took the boxes home not wanting to be rude incase this was a deal of us just not 'getting' this style of pizza - when offered to my son for lunch the next day - he proceeded to walk it to the trash .. My husband had terrible heartburn that night which is something he never has from pizza... We wanted to see if it was us or the pizza and tried another local establishment , this time take out (just in case:))) and have to say it was 1000 times better for the same exact thing.. While this style isn't my cup of tea - I will say that there are MUCH better ones to be had. So either it was an off day or just horrible pizza I am sad to say I will not be back and I don't get the hype .. The service was slow and inconsistant, the dining room dingy and 'cold' feeling, the food for us was inedible and even if I got another 'free' pizza coupon wouldn't go back... Sorry, I really tried to like it but this was just really bad in our opinion.

By far the best deep dish pizza in the world. A full patty of sausage is amazing!!!! I have been eating Gino's East pizza since 1998. Chicago, Rolling Meadows and St. Charles are locations I have been to. I order a large patty of sausage pan pizza for carry out about once a month from the St. Charles location. I have never had a bad pizza and it is always ready in about 45 minutes. I will continue to eat here and enjoy the best pizza in the world!!!

The deep dish nacho was a big disappointment. It was just nachos placed in a pizza pan. Nothing special about it. Service was extremely bad tonight. Our server was Barb and she must have been having a bad night. Our pizza took one hour before she served it and it was cold. Ok. Not cold but it was like it had been done for a while before she served it. We were dismayed. Just a pretty awful experience.

I have no problem with the fact that this place is old. Sure, it's a little dingy on the inside - whatever. If the place is clean, I don't have any issues if it's not fancy. Well, a big issue here is that the restrooms are disgusting. I think that it is completely unacceptable for any restaurant to have unclean restrooms. As far as the service goes, it STUNK. Our waitress was very slow and not very friendly at all. We had to keep trying to grab her to get refills. The pizza was good, and I had a coupon so it was a good price but definitely not a good dining experience overall.

I will never go back! Let's just say the fried calamari was the worst I've ever had and that saying a lot. The famous deep dish pizza tasted like it was frozen and didn't even deserve to be served using the Gino's name. When we left we saw about a dozen deep dish pizzas lined up ready to be reheated! Gross Our waitress was ok but the rest of the staff WOW! They need to read the "How to be an a Excellent Waiter/Waitress book for Dummies" but more importantly it shows a complete lack of leadership from the Top Down! If I where a franchise executive I'd give them a month to get things in order before I pulled naming rights.

I'm in town for business and had heard from colleagues about how good Gino's would be. Much to my dismay, I didn't get to try it. After walking over from my hotel, I was seated in a corner & basically forgotten about. 3 other parties were seated after me & they were all given prompt attention. After 10 minutes I left to find an establishment that would provide better service. If you are dining alone, you may not get the same attention here, I don't recommend it!

Not up to par with the other Gino's locations, 55 minutes to get a medium sausage deep dish pizza. Waitress was just okay, turned me off when she complained to us about another waitress. Bathrooms were not clean. There was only a few other tables occupied on a nice Sunday afternoon.... I guess the word is already out. Would not return.

Just came from Gino's East in St. Charles. What a huge let down. First off - it was just about as cold on the inside of the restaurant as it was outside - FREEZING. To make things worse they had all of the ceiling fans running. After 2 complaints about the temperature - nothing changed. While we were waiting for drinks and salads - we heard the manager talking to the people in the booth behind us who must have made a complaint. Our drinks and salads came out quickly and were good. Our pizza however came an hour and 10 minutes later. We asked the waitress about our pizza two times during our wait and all we got were excuses about them being busy with take-out orders. The manager (who looks like a high school student) came out to talk to us. We told her that we felt the wait was ridiculous and all she did was make even more excuses. The manager did not handle the complaint professionally - our waitress was more apologetic than she was. We waited at least 15 more minutes for the pizza even after speaking with the manager. The pizza was good but was NOT worth it. It was uncomfortable because of the temperature, all of the customers appeared frustrated and confused, and the wait was so long - it took up our entire evening. The women's bathroom is disgusting and the door wouldn't even shut and latch properly. The owner of Geno's East really needs to put some $ and time into this business - clean-up, make repairs to the building and hire decent management. I'm cringe to think what the kitchen looks like. DON'T GO HERE.

Gino's East makes an awesome deep dish pizza and the rest of the menu is solid, I recommend the spinach mozzarella sticks. All around great place for small or large groups and family friendly.

Excellent Chicago style deep dish pizza. Very impressed with courteous, prompt service as well. My kids loved the thin crust pizza.

I don't even know where to start. I love Gino's east but this one was disappointing. Mike was our server and seemed like he was busy. He got our order wrong and we obviously told him that's not what we ordered and he said well at least you have food for tomorrow

Seems like this pizza joint is heading down the wrong path, not as tasty as it used to be.

Overall the service and pizza was good. The two issues were our seating was terrible. We were stuck in a corner with no room to get out of the seats. The other issue was the calamari was the worst I have ever eaten. There was little to no taste and they looked very unappealing
